Halloween in Alice Springs

More than one person told me that Halloween is "American Rubbish". I get that other countries feel bombarded by American traditions. I get that Australia is a great country. I understand the desire to keep Australia uniquely Australian... but what those haters don't know is that, Halloween is FUN!!!

It is celebrated in Alice. It has something to do with the military base and a long history of Americans living here. We joined our branch for their annual 'Trunk (boot) or Treat' activity. It's a long standing tradition for our branch. Lots of people from the community come every year. A co-worker of mine that grew up here specifically asked me if we were having the activity at the church. She said she loved going to the chapel on the North side for the activity as a kid.

Each person came up with a game. The kids loved our "Pin the lolly on the ghost game". After three hours all of the super-mans and princesses finally won all of our candy.... or what they call lollies.

People thought Nate dressed us as me for Halloween. We just went with it since people don't seem to know who Orphan Annie is anymore. I wanted Nate to be 'Male Orphan Annie' more than I cared about being female orphan Annie.

I was inspired by the movie Arthur. In the movie Russell Brand plays a game where he watches the street for variations of famous people. He finds 'Lesbian Simon and Garfunkel' and 'Male Orphan Annie'. I can't remember the rest. Here's a very quick clip.
