Our Little House

Here are a few short videos walking you through of our cute little house in Omaha.  I vacuumed just to make these videos. I hope if you watch you appreciate the newly vacuumed carpet.

This first video takes you from the park across the street through our living room and dining room.

The second video starts in our junk nook at the back of the kitchen and ends in the back yard. I didn't show you the dark little hallway between the front door and the kitchen. We keep the door closed and that space is a mess. It is where we keep the dog's things and everything that doesn't have a place yet. So... it is a great space with lots of potential, but for now it is a feng shui nightmare. A total energy suck, I'm sure. It is also where we walk down to the creepy unfinished basement that has storage and the washer and dryer.

Video number three walks upstairs, through our bedroom and the baby's room.

About the baby's room: Nate made the changing table last weekend. I need to paint it. We are going to add a white tree vinyl sticker to the large wall behind the changing table. I will take pictures once it is up. I hope you notice the animal details on the curtains, the mobile over the crib and the felt animals dangling from the ceiling. It doesn't look like much, but all of that took more work than I expected. I love making things, but I don't really know what I'm doing... so every thing probably took me ten times longer than it would a more experienced crafter.

The last video is a quick glimpse of the bathroom and Nate's office. Nate's office is the only room in the house that I don't touch. So... here's my disclaimer... It's his space and it will always probably be in a state of organized chaos.

So that is our cute little house. It's not perfect. It is old and who knows how long it has been a rental. If we owned the house it would be fun to fix, but we don't... so we won't.

I love that we are across from the park. I know I have mentioned this before, but the dog has made lots of friends. The kids all know who he is and that he's old. 5-10+ children will line up to take turns throwing the ball. One time when Nate was in the front yard playing with the dog the kids even ran across from the park and played with him in our yard. Sometimes a child will be timid to throw the ball, and the other kids will reassure that child, in Spanish, "he doesn't bite, he's nice". I love that the dog is so good at making friends. He makes friends every where we go.

This isn't the safest neighborhood, but there is a sense of community that I like. There are people working to improve the neighborhood to make it a better place for families. They have a community garden and a youth garden. Once a week through the summer we have a farmers market at the park. Over the summer they had free children's tennis lessons. The lessons were taught by volunteers. A member of the community anonymously donated money to put up street lights in crime prone areas. People sit on their porches in the evenings. These older houses have great porches. I'm hoping to get a porch swing in the future. Every day a bicycle ice cream man rides around the neighborhood. Doggie hates the ice-cream man and barks every time he rides past ringing his bicycle bell. If I could eat ice cream right now I would totally indulge every day just to help support the ice-cream man.

Anyways, I am happy here. It is fun and a bit surreal for Nate and I to be so grown up now. We took our time getting to this point. Now that we are doing grown up things it's fun. Hey friends who feel stuck in adolescents... growing up is a new kind of fun. I promise. Don't be afraid.
