(an email I recently sent to family)
Baby Update.
The little stinker turned around since our last appointment. He is now bum down and his head is right under my right ribcage. Hopefully he will figure out how to turn around again before he runs out of room. I will be doing lots of "down dogs" to help him in his efforts (a yoga posture). Nate and I start a 6 week birthing class called Hypno-babies this week. The class teaches you how to relax through contractions. I have been listening to cd's so that I can learn self hypnosis. I met a guy at Trader Joe's last week whose wife just had her first baby. They also took hypno-babies from the same instructor and she delivered an 8lbs baby in under 5 hours. He said when she was 9cm dilated she couldn't believe it. He said that his wife claims that she experienced pressure, but no pain. Those are the claims that hypno-babies make.. so he was a good advertisement... and he made me feel really good about my choices. I prayed and prayed that I would find the most compassionate way to have this baby, and I feel like I was put on the right path. People seem to think I'm crazy for driving an hour to have my baby when there are 3 hospitals within a 10mins drive. However the more I talk with my mid-wife the better I feel about the practice I have chosen and the hospital where I will be delivering.
The hospital "birthing suite" has a large tub for a water birth. The mid-wife said it is more like a nice hotel room than a hospital room. I won't have to have an IV or be hooked up to anything. If the baby decides to come pre-term, then they would give me drugs to try and stop labor. If he does turn head down I'm going to deliver naturally. I am excited about this and a little scared. My mid-wife assured me that she will stay with me the entire time that I'm in labor. She said she brings essential oils and helps Nate know how to help me during labor. She also provides lactation support after labor. She said that even if I have a c-section, she will be with me the entire time. She is really cool and Nate really likes her too.
So I attached a few photos from our ultrasound today. I have been known to think that the new 4-D photos are creepy, but it was so cool to see our little guy. Nate was able to be with me today and he said he felt a little emotional when these pictures were taken. It looks like he has his daddy's nose and chin. The nose is no longer a ski slope. He also has lots of hair. It will be fun to find out if he is a red head. We still don't have a name... and I am thinking we probably won't have one until he is born. We are excited to meet this little guy, and I am sure he is excited to meet all of you.
